Is there any difference between the defensive driving course and the Adult Driver’s Ed course?

The Adult Driver’s Ed course has all the mandatory requirements that ensure that you acquire a driving license in Texas. However, the defensive driving course is necessary for those drivers who already have a license and need to take the course in order to get discounts on their insurance, get a point reduction or for ticket dismissals. Both courses are entirely different and not a substitute for each other.


What is the age limit for taking an Adult Driver’s Education course?

All drivers who are 18 and above have to give the 6 hour Adult Driver’s Education course, while the mandatory age for the Teen course is reserved for students who are aged 15 till 17 ½.


Can I get a license when I turn 18, or do I have to give a Driver’s education course?

You will not get a driver’s license under the age of 25 if you haven’t completed the state approved driver’s education course. It is compulsory for every Texas adult who is between the ages of 18 and 24.


Do I have to take the DPS written exam if I clear the online exam?

If you clear the online exam, then this will be equivalent to your DPS written license exam. When you pass the course, you will have to present your Certificate of Completion to the DPS. How many attempts am I given to clear the examination?

Everyone is given a maximum of 3 attempts in order to clear the course. None of the students have passed the test on their 1st attempt, since the course will cover everything that is necessary to pass the final examination.
